Wow, so did they actually film a recreation Tales of The Black Freighter, or is it just an animated section? |

I have the directors cut. I really liked it, It seemed to follow the frames from the book really well. I thought it was a good motion visualization of what had been happening. There were differences of course but it didn't bother me as much as many people. Keep in mind, I like the book but I don't worship it. |

I saw the general dvd release yesterday and wasn't actually very impressed. The look was pretty close and most of the acting was reasonable (if a little lightweight) but the film felt like it had just been edited down way too much. They changed things senselessly too, like when Rorshach kills the child murderer; in the book he gives him a saw and sets fire to the place (i.e cut your arm off and you might escape) but in the film he just hacks him to death.. there were a lot of things they could have kept faithful to the book without affecting it imo. Plus the alternate ending while not story breaking is a tad weak. Is it worth watching a longer version with less cuts? |
