I don't know why I didn't notice this until now, but looking at the cover art last night I realized that there is a problem with subject/verb agreement.

Basically, if you put the sentence in subject --> verb --> preposition form, you end up with "Madness lie behind the the shadows."

"Madness" is the subject of the sentence (and singular), which means that the verb "lie" (which is also singular) should actually be "lies" (which would be plural) to conform to the rules of subject/verb agreement. The rest of the sentence is just a prepositional phrase, so it doesn't have any effect on the subject and verb.

So my question is, was this intentional or merely an oversight? If it's the latter, can we expect a re-print of the album with corrected grammar?

I think "lie" is fine because the "shadow" is plural..

"Behind The Shadow Lie Madness" would just sound stupid
but "Behind The Shadow Lies Madness" doesn't because of what you explained

"Behind The Shadows Lie Madness" sounds perfectly fine to me whereas
"Behind The Shadows Lies Madness" doesn't.. too many plurals.. hahaha

"Shadows" is a part of the prepositional phrase though, so it has no effect on the subject/verb agreement.

The reason it probably "sounds better" to you (and the reason why the band probably made the oversight) is because the syntax is inverted so that the subject of the sentence occurs after the verb.
