First of all... EMGs...sound...like...plastic. I aaate them active pickups. Seymour Duncan my friend... Seymour fucking Duncan. (Screeeamin Demons)And fuck Marshall. Fuck Mesa. Fuck em all...except Hughes and Kettner.

What are those zoom thingies like man? I'm still using a beaten up POD.
And for some strange reason I'm liking distortion with a maple necked guitar a lot more than I used to.

Tuning: Eb or Db. Thrash!

and Bb/A# exclusively, bodaciously and only.... for Wrath of GAWD 8)

In Orchid, I just use the same stuff as Tom, I'll get the details later.

The zoom thingy is quite good for what I want its got everything on it that I need, and endless distorsion settings, but Im looking for that extra oommpph!,Our last gig though I pretty much nailed it on sound wise,we kicked ass.
Ive got an old washburn with a maple neck its sweet.

For me, Mahogany guitars made by Dean, which are my new favorite guitars and urinate on gibsons from a great height. Loaded with an EMG 81 in the bridge position and nothing in the neck position cos I dont play solos. No tone knob, just volume. Tune to C with 11's and play through a Boss GX700.

The best heads Ive played through are old Laney AOR50 heads (4 of them) with 4 cabs loaded with EV speakers. Id love to play with a 5150 head. Line6 sound good, but ive heard the patching between settings is sloppy.

EMGs are the best thing for extreme distortion. No background noise (none of that awful humming in the beckground) and they output louder than any passive pickup I know. The 81 outputs at 1.5 volts. The EMG 60 sounds interesting, but I would need to try one.

fucking right, Seymours are the way forward. I use the Full Shred for every rhythm I record. It's got such a punchy, bitting tone. The one good thing I will say about EMG's is that they will make any guitar sound good. I had EMG's in my Strat... and incidently it had a maple neck. But it now is in peices about my room.

My rhythm distortion sound is typically.
Gain: 5
Bass: 8
Treble: 10
Mid: 3

Neck Thru's and Fixed bridges also work. I don't have a fixed bridge guitar but I am trying to purchace a second hand RG7321 (authough he wants like £300 for it... haha) Floyds (as a general rule, be them actual Roses or Ibanez Edge's etc) just eat your tone. But saying that Kahler's seem to fucking keep everthing! I have a spider trem, it's built like a bunker.

What amp do you have those settings on? I normally have Gain at about 5, bass on 3, mids on 8, treble on 5/6 and presence on 6 or 7. I also use a 4-band EQ. (this is all with my Pod XT)

I use those settings on my ENGL. Im pretty sure I have the Presence and Depth Controls at 4 and 8 respectivley. For my Marshall, normally I have the gain 5, Bass 8, Mid 5, Treble 10. I use it for solo's mainly. Because it's 40watts, its got a really nice rich lead tone. When it's fully cranked through a 4x12

pod xt with the metal pack. pretty good for me. pickups do help. hottest pickups i've ever heard are dimarzio x2ns, hotter than magma!

I like medium output pickups, just because they crunch up rather than just goo your tone
