Which format wins in your opinion?

Blu-Ray has scope for larger capacity and PS3 support...
HD-DVD has ample capacity and has the backing of Microsoft amongst others...

Blu-ray have banned porn from that format since Sony won't allow it, which pretty much means theres going to be a massive hole in their market. So I'd say HD-DVD will win.

I really don't know which will. but it kind of sucks not knowing because if you buy the wrong player then you're fucked.

but since the ps3 and the 360 both have a shelf life of about 10 years i think most people will own a 360 and a ps3 once they become cheaper and more affordable, so it will just come down to whichever one people feel like buying

personally I don't know anyone who bothers with HD stuff so I think it might not take off. but I guess like the origonal DVD format eventually places will sell exclusively HD DVDS or Blu Ray so prices will come down etc.

at the moment though I personally wouldn't spend 25 quid on a DVD thats exactly the same only a bit better quality.

i dont really expect it to take off either. everybody is always going to buy the cheaper one (DVD) so i dont think it will take off with the general public and it will stick to just video games.

From my own experience of Blu-Ray discs, the differences mainly become apparent when your HD screen is larger than 32". I have seen this on a friends' screen.

Larger than this and you can see the limitations of DVD encoding whereas Blu-Ray (with a decent transfer) looks good on even a 65" screen.
So if your screen is smaller I would stick to DVD for now and buy an upscaling player (which you can get dirt cheap now).

As for £25 a disc - this is only the case if you decide to patronise rip-off high street shops like Virgin and HMV. They did the same with DVD, which were also £25 when they first arrived in shops. If you shop around online you can get Blu-Ray for as little as £12.

To be honest at the mo the choice isn't that great so it's best to wait anyway unless you've already bought a PS3.
Having said that, all you Arnie fans will be pleased to know that Total Recall and the first 2 Terminators are already out on Blu-Ray hehehe

I think HD-DVD because of cost, and backwards compatibility.

I heard somewhere that the non-premium Xbox360's will have HDTV support, but the base of the machine hasn't been modified, and it also hasn't been officially announced quite yet.

Otherwise, I care for neither.
