Cheaper than buying all the Invisibles then (7 compilations so around £70 for the lot)

Heh. I will warn, it's a mid-80s comic, so the art isn't up to the spangly, super-crisp modern standards, but the characterisations are perfect.

I picked up a couple of the new Marvel Ultimates books the other day. Surprisingly good. I'm not really into comic books (I like them, but I'm nowhere near a rabid collector), and certainly couldn't tell Bane from Spawn, but these were fun, and with nice art. Got 'em cheap, too. 8)

It's basically a detective story. Set in an alternate 1980s world which is spiralling towards nuclear war, in a world where "costumed vigilantes" existed for real, but were outlawed in the mid-70s, apart from the few who worked for the government. Note that these are "costumed vigilantes", and not "superheroes". Only one character has any form of special powers.

It's very dark. ;)

It's just a really deep, engrossing story with some very memorable characters.

Sound's awesome.

Toozey has tried getting me into The Invisibles (well, he just linked me to a site :p) Sounds very cool, though I cant be bothered to track it down.

Alan Moore hated The League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen, and is saying that the V For Vendetta movie is going to be absolutely crap.

Another instance of the creators fighting back against adaptations-
MGM had to send Jamie Hewlett about a million letters telling him to "Keep my fucking mouth shut" about how awful the Tank Girl movie was going to be. (Which he was completely right about. The only reason he let em make one was because he was skint :D)

And 2000 AD, along with most of the English speaking world, HATE the Judge Dredd movie.

Some things just don't translate well to movie form. Hell, most movies of books end up being crappy, pale imitations of the source material, and it's much the same with comic books.

Alan Moore's work in particular has been horribly mistranslated - the abysmal League movie and the shitty From Hell film. I don't hold high hopes for V. It's just better to read these things, honestly, and Moore's work is pretty consistently good.

The only good thing about the League movie was the badguy at the beggining.

"You cant fire that in here, biatch, that be a fookin hydrogen blimp!"
"THATS TERRIFYING! (fires bazooka at blimp)"

Moore's a god among men. :) I recently re-read Watchmen, actually, still IMO the best damned comic ever.

I borrowed Promethea from a friend the other day. It was so good, I read the first 4 books that very night!

I can't begin to explain anything about this comic. It's just beyond description. Imagine Dante's Inferno, except it's a tour of the whole Universe (and then some!), and illustrated by the mind of Lewis Carroll on Acid!

My Lord, my heads fried!
