On the Nile topic, I'm curious as to where Nile will take it next..."In their Darkened Shrines" was a fucking excellent album...but apart from some better sounding synths (the synth arrangement itself was brilliant), I can't see what they could do to be fresh. I could see alot of people being upset if they broke away from their original sound, but I wouldn't mind if a band continued to think outside the box, even if it wasn't as good as their previous work. As Sepultura once said, "Why make the same album twice?".

Yeah but the thing about bands progressing and/or changing is that it's kind of a double edged sword, like if you just stay the same then poeople say you're boring and if you change then the older fans don't like it. In my opinion I think bands should mature and develop and 'think outside the box', but also I think it has to be quite a subtle change, I mean it is fine if you have only released one or two albums of a certain style or sound and then change but if the fans come to expect anything of you and you don't give them what they want they will eventually lose interest, and yes they will get new fans etc. but in a perfect world wouldn't they be able to keep old fans and gain new ones at the same time!?, anyway (I think I'm rambling a bit), I think with their next direction I think nile should most definately not do what I think will seem like the simplest option to them which is to add alot more samples and synths to their sound to make it more egyptian sounding, cuz I mean the beuty of the egyptian thing was that they didn't overdo it and just had enough of the synths and samples etc. to make you think of egypt but not to bore you or take away from the novelty they posess. so yeah in conclusion I hope what they do next is brutal and tight with some killer beats and guitars.

Point taken.

however, it has always been my idealogy(sp?) that you play for yourself, not the fans. If I was in Nile, I would do what came natural and not worry about trying to keep the fans. Why limit yourself in anyway what-so-ever?

On the hand, it's how they make a living so fair do's.

I don't think Leon hates Nile. In the same interview he says "Don't get me wrong. Nile are an excellent band". He was just stating that Nile don't have an egyptian sound and use the same scales repeatedly etc. He was basically saying their sound is not Middle Eastern but more 'Hollywood' metal.
