I was reading a friend's copy of Total Guitar today that had a "Top 20 all-time heaviest riffs" feature. It had Slayer's Raining Blood at No.1, containing the heaviest riff of all time! - which is of course bullshit. The rest of the chart was quite laughable with bands like Korn getting entries. Anyway I just wondered what you (more informed) people consider to be the heaviest riffs ever? :twisted:

The last riff in "Rival the Eminent" off the Immolation record Unholy Cult would be a good candidate. :twisted:

Also, the obvious riff in "Dead Embryonic Cells" by Sepultura.

Oh, and the really, really slow riff in "Invocation of the Continual One" by Morbid Angel.

I could probably come up with a whole bunch of other Ã¼ber-heavy riffs, but it's late and I've just returned from a very brutal gig with Gorgoroth and 1349.
