Hmmm this vote is pretty pointless on a Mithras forum - they're obviously going to win. I don't give a shit what people say about Morbid Angel, I go on what I saw and heard with my own eyes and ears when I saw them live in London this year. I've seen shitloads of bands live - all the 'bighitters' like Nile and Deicide etc. Now the last time I saw Nile they were fuckin' awesome and really tight but Morbid Angel are in a league of their own live. They weren't as good on the Gateways tour when Steve Tucker was absent but they were sublime this time round. It was by far the best gig I've been to - I could very nearly touch Azagthoth's guitar and after the show he came out to meet everyone; no rockstar bullshit. As far as studio recordings go - since 1989 no other extreme metal band has had as much influence on the scene as MA have and they have nothing left to prove. They have a quality back catalogue (Altars...Blessed...Covenant....Formulas). Maybe when Mithras have released 6 or 7 albums it will be a fair contest but not yet. To be honest I think Leon is probably sick to death of Mithras being compared to Morbid Angel. I think WBTV sounds totally different to anything MA have put out - I don't class it as death metal, it has too many different facets to be 'pigeon-holed' in that genre. After that little rant though I can honestly say that WBTV is by far and away my favourite album (of any genre). |
