Hey there Leon, I'm always on the look out for interesting new excersizes and little lessons to improve my overall technique, and seeing as you're quite the wizard, especially when it comes to 7 strings, you might help me here. So anything you find particularly usefull?

Hi Karl,

ugh that's a hard question. I don't generally PRACTICE a lot, i usually just play, and find things i can't play so well and play them until i can.

I pretty much abandoned "normal exercises" a few years ago. You could try the "spider walk" exercise, which someone showed me a few years back and is always infuriating:

----------------------------------------------------------------------3-4-5-6--
-----------------------------------------------------------3-4-5-6-------------
------------------------------------------------3-4-5-6-----------------------
------------------------------------3-4-5-6-----------------------------------
------------------------3-4-5-6-----------------------------------------------
-------------3-4-5-6----------------------------------------------------------
-3-4-5-6----------------------------------------------------------------------

Play this really slow, the idea is to place a finger on the frets one at a time in the 1st phrase, then to only move one finger at a time, so by the 4th note of the first phrase (6th fret 1st string), all 4 fingers of your hand will be on the neck, then start the 2nd phrase by moving ONLY your index finger up to the 2nd string, then move each finger in turn.

See what you make of that, it's good for developing finger independence, which is something we could all do with more of.
