Mithras are searching for a rhythm guitarist to play live shows with the band throughout 2010 and beyond (one-off shows, festivals and possibly short tours).

We're looking for someone who is familiar with our material with a decent level of live show experience. Applicants must have their own professional level guitar equipment and be able to travel to the midlands to rehearse. They must also be a resident of the UK and hold a full passport.

We use two different guitar tunings A# and drop C# (detailed on the Mithras forum in the FAQ section).

Applicants must send a link to a video (preferably) or send an audio recording in mp3 format of them playing the song 'Worlds Beyond The Veil' - full tablature available here:

I remember back during the great Nile vs Mithras online debacle, Karl Sanders once said something like "Mithras want you to think they are faster than they really are". After trying to learn this song, I think it's the other way round. Mithras sound slower than they really are!

Karl Sanders was right when he said something like "most players think they are playing 16th notes but are actually playing triplets or floating with their picking". Playing an entire Mithras set with a lot of 16th notes at around 265bpm (and some songs in bursts over 300) is very, very hard.

We'll be auditioning a few people at the end of the month, watch this space!

Oh and why is there some sort of contest by the way for whom plays the fastest music in the world??? Both are sickening fast, and very difficult to play, especially a whole set of those monstrous songs!!! But Mithras sounds better for me and Nile has become a bit of a disappoint last 2 albums... O and Nile wins in popolairity(at the moment:P). Too bad i aint english or welsh or scottish so i could travel that island a bit better... Would have my dedication though i am crap at guitar and compositions!!! DAMN!!!

I don't think there's any competition between Mithras and Nile anymore, (if there ever really was).

There's a huge gulf between the two bands; as far as I'm aware Nile do the band as a full time job, and are one of the most successful extreme bands out there right now, they tour regularly and have hundreds of thousands of fans.

On the other side is Mithras; we never intended to make Mithras into our "work" and do the band as a hobby/part time job, have a much smaller fanbase and don't do full-on tours, in fact we were only able to gig properly relatively recently. This might seem like a bit of a downside until you realise outside the band we all live successful lives which we'll be able to continue doing long after Mithras is forgotten...

I say kudos to any band who can crack the market and turn their passion into a full time affair. With the style Mithras plays this could almost never happen, and I wouldn't be interested in changing style just to appeal to more people.

Right now me (and the other guys) are in a good position to reap the rewards of the ten years of hard work Rayner and I put in to Mithras, and to capitalise on it with the shows we're now able to play. Hence the drive to recruit another player so we can even better represent the songs from the records in a live situation!
